O MEN FROM THE FIELDS
Poem: Padraic Colum. Tune: Arnold Cooke.
This Arr & Verse 2: Graham Pratt

1. O men from the fields, come gently within,
Tread softly so softly, O men coming in.
Mavourneen is goin' from me and from you,
Where Mary will fold him with mantle of blue.
From reek of the smoke and cold of the floor
And the peering of things across the half-door.
O men from the fields, so softly come through;
Mary puts round him her mantle of blue.

2. O men from the fields, come gently within,
Step lightly, so lightly, O men coming in.
Mavourneen is goin' from me and from you,
Where Mary will fold him with mantle of blue.
From bite of the frost and fear of the night,
Mavourneen will sleep till sweet morning light.
O men from the fields, come silently through;
Mary puts round him her mantle of blue.

Mary puts round him her mantle of blue.
Mary puts round him her mantle of blue.
